The problem beneath the waves

Sea urchins are eating Norway's kelp forests alive.

Left unchecked, sea urchins graze thriving kelp forests down to bare rock — creating "urchin barrens" where fish nurseries collapse and marine life disappears. It's one of the most under-reported ecological crises of the northern ocean.

Ecofang was built on a simple inversion: what if the problem is the product? By selectively harvesting urchins, we let kelp — and the ecosystems that depend on it — come back to life.

01 — REMOVE

Selective harvest

Remote-controlled harvesting removes urchins precisely, without dredging the seabed or harming surrounding life.

02 — RESTORE

Kelp returns

Freed from grazing pressure, kelp forests regenerate — rebuilding habitat, nurseries and carbon sinks.

03 — DELIVER

Premium uni

The very urchins we remove become world-class uni, funding the restoration and creating coastal livelihoods.
